Welcome to City Fare
Meals on Wheels
City Fare Meals on Wheels, a program of Saint Anthony’s Community Center, has operated in Wilmington since 1986. We provide hot, nourishing meals to homebound elderly and disabled persons in New Castle County who are unable to prepare meals for themselves and who have no one to do so for them. We also provide professional case management to every client. The meals, daily contact by caring volunteers, and staff who coordinate other services as needed allow frail, otherwise forgotten, homebound persons to remain living independently in their own homes.
What is City Fare?
City Fare Meals on Wheels, a program of Saint Anthony’s Community Center, has operated in Wilmington since 1986. Volunteers and financial contributions have always been vital in fulfilling our mission . Without this support, it would be impossible to feed the people we do each day. Volunteers not only deliver meals but also, perhaps even more importantly, show concern, love, and compassion. For many clients, the Meals on Wheels volunteers are the only people they see each day.
In addition to delivering Meals on Wheels, City Fare serves meals at lunchtime in senior center dining rooms and senior housing complexes throughout New Castle County.
City Fare receives funding from the State of Delaware through the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities, donations from the people it serves, and significant contributions from Meals on Wheels Delaware.
About Meal Eligibility
To be eligible to receive Meals on Wheels you must be age 60 or over and be confined to the home because of lack of mobility, illness or disability. If you meet these requirements and would like to begin the referral and assessment process, please call our office at 302-421-3734
If you are not considered homebound, but you would like to enjoy a freshly prepared meal, visit a City Fare dining room location.
We appreciate the support of our community
City Fare depends on support from many companies, organizations, and individuals. We are grateful for all they do to support our seniors.
Volunteer with City Fare
Imagine running a restaurant where each weekday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., about 750 customers order their lunch – all at the same time. And they all want their orders delivered to their homes. Now, take it a step further, and imagine that you are short staffed nearly every single day.
That is a typical day at City Fare Meals on Wheels.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who we schedule to deliver Meals on Wheels each day at lunch time, however; there are gaps in our coverage and we are in need of volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels throughout New Castle County. We are aggressively reaching out to individuals, church and civic groups and companies to encourage their employees to become involved in the community and in our program.
We have over 60 Meals on Wheels routes to cover each weekday.
If you are a business owner, we ask you to consider lending us just two employees per week for an hour or so. If you are an employee, ask your boss or human resources officer about pitching in and supporting Meals on Wheels and the homebound individuals we serve. It is a very rewarding experience. As we like to say – Enjoy a lunch that is good for your heart!
Our Corporate Volunteers include WSFS Bank, Citibank, Delmarva Power, JP Morgan Chase, and Agilent Technologies.
Our Small Business Partners include Principal Trust, Prudential Fox Roach, Patterson Schwartz, Remax, and True Value.
